Nativity Embroidery Pattern
Because it is time to start with it to have it ready for Christmas....
I wanted to make a Christmas tree ornament last year, but I finished it in January... This year I wanted to share the pattern with you and I'm doing so now to give your plenty of time to finish it before Christmas. It is a simple depiction of the nativity scene you can make a Christmas ornament or you can use a bigger pattern and decorate, for example your front door.
Below you can download the pattern in two sizes.
To do this embroidery we will use back stitch, whipped back stitch and satin stitch. I have a tutorial for back stitch and whipped back stitch here, if you don't know them.
You will need: fabric, embroidery hoop and embroidery threads in following colours: gray, three shades of blue, two shades of skin colour, three shades of brown, white, and golden thread
First we will do the outlines using the back stitch and two strands of embroidery thread, you might use three for the bigger embroidery
1. Outline Mary's veil in gray
2. Outline Mary's clothes in dark blue, using darker shade for the mantle,
3. Outline the hand and face in darker shade of a skin colur
4. Outline the eyes in black
5. Outline Jesus' wrap in gray
6. Jesus' face in darker skin colour
7. Joseph's hair and beard in dark brown
8. Josephs face and hands in dark skin colur and eyes in black
9. Joseph's clothes in brown
Then we will fill the insides using two, or three for the bigger, strands of embroidery thread and satin stich
1. Mary's veil in white
2. Mary's cloack in blue and clothes in lighter blue
3. Mary's face and hands in skin colour
4. Jesus' wrap in white
5. Jesus' face in skin colour
6. Joseph's hair and beard in brown
7. Joseph's face and hands in skin colour
8. Joseph's clothes in lighter brown
Finally, trace the halos using a golden thread and whipped back stitch, as many times next to each other as you wish to, depending on thickness of your golden thread and preference. Fill the star in satin stitch using the golden thread.
Now, it is time to back your hoop and you are done!!! ☺️☺️
I would love to see your finished pieces, so please share with me and let me know if you are hanging them on your Christmas tree or somewhere else. And if anything is unclear, don't hesitate to ask 😉
Happy stitching!! 🙂
